Association Montessori Internationale
A school or teacher training program that carries the AMI name is continuing the tradition of quality first established by Dr. Montessori, a tradition that incorporates standards based directly on Dr. Montessori's work.
As a trained scientist, the "method" of education that Dr. Montessori developed is, as its core, a theory. With any theory, it is essential that the conditions of the original experiment are duplicated to achieve the same results. As such, the incredible success that Dr. Montessori had with her students can only be replicated by maintaining her exact standards.
Dr. Montessori founded the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) in 1929 to protect her legacy; today AMI is the recognized global standard for Montessori quality. Only 250 Montessori school in the United States are recognized by AMI. To be a recognized, a school must have:
- An AMI trained teacher at the appropriate age level for each class.
The Montessori School of Rochester is proud to be affiliated with the Association Montessori Internationale. We are proud to carry on Dr. Montessori's vision for the advocacy of children and to provide an educational environment of respect, for each child in our school community.
